CAA Friday Education April 26, 2019

The Charlotte Arborists Association in pleased to announce an expansion to our weekend of festivities surrounding the annual climbing competition with the addition of an education day. With the advancements in gear and techniques available to the modern arborist that are designed to allow us to be more productive daily and extend our careers as production arborists we have decided to hold a day of instruction by some of the brightest minds in the industry. With so many options available to us it can be confusing on which system fits your climbing style and this day will help you choose what is right for you.

There will be three separate sessions you will get as a student.

One session will be a Rope Runner tree taught by Kevin Bingham, the creator of the Rope Runner and Rope Wrench. The other instructor for this session is “Tree Cutter” Doug Tochtrop, one of the most outspoken proponents of the Runner and an extremely talented arborist that loves to share his knowledge.

The next session will be a Rope Wrench tree taught by Jeff Inman who took second in the world at last years ISA international climbing comp, ISC sponsored climber, and a fantastic public speaker. The other instructor for this session will be Bryan Joseph Brock, a decorated competition climber and innovator of techniques that help to keep us all safe.

The third session for the day will be a double rope tree taught by Cormac Nagan who placed second two years ago at the ISA international tree climbing competition and is one of the most knowledgeable arborists out there. The other instructor for this session is Travis Vickerson, one of the most influential people in the industry he sits on the board of writing standards that keep us safe and travels the world teaching crane classes.

With such a wealth of talent that comes to our competition each year I am excited to harness some of this knowledge and give back to the tree climbing community to help people make educated choices in gear and keep us all climbing longer.

The price for the day is a great value at $25.00. As a paying student you will get three hour and a half sessions, lunch, and drinks included. Please bring your own chair if you want a place to sit and let us know if you have any dietary things we need to address. Also TreeStuff has been generous enough to offer prize packages that will be raffled off at the end of the days activities.

Schedule for the day will be: 8:00-9:00 meet and greet. 9:00-10:30 session one. 10:30-12:00 session two. 12:00-12:30 lunch. 12:30-2:00 session three. At the end of the days instruction students are encouraged to hang out and meet some of the climbers that will be throwing down over the weekend and come through walk throughs with the competitors to see what these competitions are all about. At the end of walk throughs students will get back together for the raffle which is included in your admission and the only way you can win these prizes.
